How to make it

  1. 1
Melt shea butter and coconut oil gently

Combine shea butter and coconut oil in a glass bowl set over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method). Stir until just melted — do not overheat. Remove from heat as soon as everything is liquid.

  2. 2
    Add almond oil and stir

Stir in the sweet almond oil while the mixture is still warm. This keeps everything fluid and ensures the oils combine evenly.

  3. 3
Cool in the refrigerator until solid

Place the bowl in the refrigerator for 30–45 minutes until the mixture is completely solid and opaque. Do not skip this — whipping liquid oils produces nothing. The mixture must be cold and firm.

  4. 4
    Whip with a hand mixer

Using a hand mixer or stand mixer with a whisk attachment, whip the solidified mixture on medium-high speed for 5–8 minutes. It will become light, fluffy, and white — like thick whipped cream. Scrape down the sides every couple of minutes.

  5. 5
Add essential oils and whip briefly

Add lavender essential oil and vitamin E oil and whip for another 30 seconds to incorporate. The body butter is ready when it holds soft peaks.

  6. 6
    Transfer to a jar

Spoon the whipped body butter into a clean glass jar. It will keep its fluffy texture at room temperature (below 28°C). If it melts and re-solidifies, simply re-whip.

Why apply to damp skin

Body butter has no water in it — it is 100% oils and butters. Applied to completely dry skin, it sits on the surface and can feel heavy. Applied to slightly damp skin (just patted, not towel-dried), the oil seals in the water from your shower and the moisturising effect is dramatically better. This is the single tip that makes the biggest difference.

Why it works

Key ingredient benefits

Shea butter — deeply moisturising, rich in fatty acids, reduces inflammation
Coconut oil — antimicrobial, penetrates skin shaft more than most oils
Sweet almond oil — lightweight, rich in vitamin E, suited to all skin types
Lavender essential oil — calming, promotes skin cell renewal
Vitamin E — antioxidant, extends shelf life, supports skin healing
Variations & customisations
