How to make it
- 1Start with clean skin
Cleanse your face before applying the mask. The mask works by direct contact with skin — any residue of sunscreen, makeup, or oil reduces its effectiveness.
- 2Mix ingredients in a small bowl
Combine turmeric, honey, and curd in a small bowl. Stir well until you have a smooth, uniform paste with no lumps of dry turmeric. If using lemon juice, add it last.
- 3Apply evenly with a brush or fingers
Apply a thin, even layer over your face avoiding the eye area. A small cosmetic brush gives more control. Fingers work equally well — just be careful not to get turmeric in your eyes.
- 4Leave for 10–15 minutes
Set a timer. The curd's lactic acid works within 10 minutes. Turmeric staining increases with longer contact time — do not leave for more than 20 minutes.
- 5Rinse with warm water
Rinse off with warm (not hot) water. Any yellow tinge from the turmeric will fade within 30–60 minutes. If concerned, follow with a gentle wipe with a cotton pad dampened with toner or micellar water.
Turmeric temporarily stains skin a slight yellow — this is curcumin, the same compound responsible for its anti-inflammatory benefits. The tint fades within 30–60 minutes of rinsing as the curcumin oxidises on skin. If you need stain-free skin immediately after, add a few drops of lemon juice to the mask — the acidity reduces the staining effect without reducing the turmeric's benefits.
Key ingredient benefits
